Cleveland Cavaliers Play-by-Play -- POSITION FILLED
(Thank you to the Cavaliers for sending this to STAA).
The Cleveland Cavaliers have launched the process of searching for and hiring the team’s new radio play-by-play announcer. Hall of Fame broadcaster Joe Tait retired at the conclusion of the 2010-11 season, having been the radio voice of the Cavaliers for 39 seasons.
“We’d like to invite all qualified candidates to apply. A great mix of impressive broadcasters already have, but we’d like to also officially encourage anyone that is interested to now apply as we start this important process. We will undergo a deep and thorough review as we search for just the right person to be the new radio play-by-play voice of the Cavs,” said Cavaliers President Len Komoroski.
Cavalier games are broadcast on the Cavs flagship station WTAM 1100 AM and across the Cavaliers Radio Network including stations throughout the state of Ohio and multi-state region.

Re: Cleveland Cavaliers Play-by-Play -- APPLICATIONS CLOSED
The Cavaliers have reviewed more than 150 applications for their play-by-play position. Senior Director Broadcast Services Dave Dombrowksi tells STAA they hope to focus their efforts on 5-10 applicants by the end of June, with the position being finalized by the end of July. They want to have their new broadcaster on staff sometime in August.

Mike Snyder and Matt Dery are among those still in the mix:

Re: Cleveland Cavaliers Play-by-Play -- APPLICATIONS CLOSED
There is a very good chance the Cavs will announce their new broadcaster before the end of this month. As the Cleveland media has been reporting since Day 1, it is expected to be either Mike Snyder or Matt Dery. From the Cavs standpoint, and it is very understandable, it makes little sense to not hire one of the guys who broadcast all the games last season.

A quick update from Dave Dombrowski:
"Just wanted to let you know that we are still working through the process and a decision has yet to be made. There is a short list of candidates that we have been focusing on internally and are trying to find the best “fit” for us."
Sincere thanks to Dave for going out of his way to keep us updated throughout the process. The visitors to our job board appreciate it very much.

The Cavs have named John Michael, the former Lake Erie Monsters broadcaster, as their new radio play-by-play voice. Congrats to John!

Re: Cleveland Cavaliers Play-by-Play -- POSITION FILLED
STAA has already recorded an interview with Dave Dombrowski from the Cavs. He shares some of the things applicants for the Cavaliers job did that were impressive, as well as suggestions for things folks might do differently when applying for similar jobs. We'll share the interview with STAA clients in next month's STAA eBlast (November).
In the October eBlast, we interviewed Boise State University play-by-play voice Bob Behler. Many folks have the ability to do DI play-by-play. The first thing we asked Bob about was the difference between guys who get the opportunity and those who don't.
