Weisman moving cross-country for Bells

Mike Weisman(March 13, 2013) Mike Weisman is moving from one corner of the country to another for his first post-college play-by-play job. An STAA client who just earned his Masters from the University of Miami in December, Weisman is joining the Bellingham (WA) Bells as Play-by-Play Broadcaster/Media Relations Assistant.

The Bells play baseball in the summer collegiate West Coast League. It is Weisman’s first job with a baseball organization. “Not only will I be working on the broadcasting side of things, but due to the tight knit group of employees, I will have an opportunity to work in every aspect of the organization, whether it be sales, marketing, media, etc,” Weisman says.

An STAA client since September, Weisman learned of the opportunity in an email from STAA. He heard back from the team within an hour of submitting his application. “I never would have found out about the broadcasting position with the Bells if it were not for STAA,” says Weisman. “The job listings emails led to 75% -plus of my applications. A lot of teams don’t even post their broadcasting position on their website, so STAA is the place to go.”

Weisman’s baseball broadcasting experience includes calling University of Miami Hurricanes games on the campus radio station. Among the things he is looking forward to with the Bells is gaining considerable experience in a short amount of time.

“I am excited to be able to broadcast 55-plus games in just about as many days,” Weisman says. “Getting an opportunity to broadcast on a nightly basis should give me a good idea on where to go with my future.”
