Tyler Murray is 7th STAA member to reach the NBA

Anyone watching Tyler Murray’s career could have assumed his future was in Major League Baseball. He’d spent 14 seasons in the minors and filled-in on 25 Boston Red Sox radio broadcasts this year. Hockey would have been a logical second choice for where Murray’s career might peak. He has considerable experience there, too. Instead, Murray is joining the New York Knicks as their radio and occasional TV play-by-play voice.

“I think a lot of people always figured it would be baseball or hockey for me, but the truth is the Knicks have always been my dream job. Just so incredibly fortunate,” Murray told STAA via email.

Murray is the seventh current or former STAA member to reach the NBA. (See the list below).

Murray was born in Connecticut and raised in Massachusetts. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University 2011 before beginning his trek through Minor League Baseball. He spent the past three summers on the radio and TV teams with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox. Murray’s basketball experience includes University of New Hampshire games on ESPN+, UMASS hoops on WEEI Springfield and Stetson University basketball on ESPN3.

MSG Networks VP of Content and Marketing Kevin Marotta said in a press release, “We’ve admired Tyler’s versatility, his work ethic and his passion for New York Knicks basketball.”
