(February 22, 2016) Greg Talbott was concerned that advancing his TV sports anchoring career would mean giving up his play-by-play passion. Instead, his new job includes both. An STAA member, Talbott is joining WSAV in Savannah, GA as Lead Sports Anchor and Play-by-Play Broadcaster.
“I couldn’t be more excited,” says Talbott. “In my last job, I was able to both anchor and call games, and I was worried the next one would force me to give up one of those passions. Thankfully, WSAV puts tons of resources into their high school and college game broadcasts, and I didn’t have to choose between my two loves.”
Talbott moves to the South from KNDU-TV in Kennewick, WA and SWX, the inland Northwest’s Regional Sports Network. With SWX, Talbott called college basketball, minor league baseball and high school football, basketball, baseball, and softball.
When Talbott read about the Savannah opportunity in an email from STAA, he knew immediately it was a position he wanted. “It felt like they were describing me, or someone like me, in their job posting. I guess, in a way, they were!”
During his senior year at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA, Talbott was honored in STAA’s 2013 All-America program as the nation’s ninth most outstanding collegiate sports broadcaster. A lifelong resident of Oregon and Washington, he has no reservations about leaving the Pacific Northwest.
“Savannah is an incredible city,” says Talbott. “I felt at home right away when I visited. On one hand, it’s this historic mecca with architecture out of the 1800s, but on the other hand, it’s experiencing a huge boom and young people are flocking there. I can’t wait to experience such a unique place.
