Success is when preparation meets opportunity. STAA client Brady Stiff has found success in the job market, joining WTKM Radio in Hartford, WI as Sports Director and On-Air Host.
Stiff landed the job through a connection at WGN in Chicago, where he’s been a producer since 2009. “I randomly ran into the general manager Tom Langmyer one night while I was there to produce a Cubs game (Langmyer has since left WGN).” Tom and I had never met before, so he proposed that I come in during the day sometime so he could get to know me a little bit.”
During that meeting, Langmyer mentioned that a friend of his at WTKM was looking for someone to fill the Sports Director/Host position. “[Langmyer] thought it would be a great opportunity, especially at the entry level. So I applied, went through the interview process, and landed the job.
“It’s funny, this never would have happened if I hadn’t run into Tom by pure chance that one night.”
This is Stiff’s first full-time job in radio. “Both Tom Langmyer and my eventual boss Dave Stout (owner of WTKM) stressed the need for me to be a broadcaster, not just a sportscaster. It’s an opportunity to break into a format that I wasn’t as familiar with before, while staying true to my roots in sports at the same time. I’m going to learn a lot, not just about radio, but broadcasting in general.”
