(February 19, 2013) Matt Leland is making the jump from independent league baseball to Double-A. An STAA client, Leland has accepted a Broadcasting and Media Relations Assistant position with the Jacksonville Suns.
The Suns are the Class-AA affiliate of the Miami Marlins.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for me because it will allow me to collect a summer’s worth of experience at the Double-A level, where the most exciting prospects in all of organized baseball play,” Leland says. “I will receive a ton of experience not only in the booth, but in the studio, on the field and in the clubhouse, as well.”
The opportunity to interview for the job came about through a connection Leland shared with Suns Director of Broadcasting Roger Hoover. “When the position opened, Roger sought advice and I was recommended,” says Leland.
Hoover is excited to add Leland to the Suns staff. “Matt is a great addition to our team in Jacksonville. He brings a wealth of experience in a variety of media platforms, and I know Suns fans will enjoy getting to know him.”
A 2012 graduate of the University of Southern California, Leland spent last summer broadcasting for the El Paso Diablos of the American Association. He has been an STAA client since June 2012.
“STAA has allowed me to stay up on what jobs are open and which of those positions fit my skills and experience,” Leland says. “There’s no question I would be in a less fortunate position without the service.”
