The Sioux Falls Canaries of the the independent American Association are accepting applications for a Broadcasting & Media Relations Assistant.

The Canaries are looking for a talented, motivated, and personable individual to assist at all 50 home games during the 2020 season. They will support the organization’s key objectives, which are to expand on the broadcast, and add to the game experience for fans. This is a seasonal part-time position running from May through early September 2020.

Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Compensation for the position is a $400/month stipend. Housing is not provided, but our front office can help the successful applicant find low-cost housing in the area.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

- Assist in play-by-play for each Canaries home radio broadcast
- Hosting a 15-minute pregame show prior to Canaries home games
- Assisting with Canaries game notes and creating stat packs
- Writing postgame recaps for Canaries home games
- Performing pre- and post-game interviews with Canaries players and coaches for radio broadcasts and social media
- Creating video and audio packages (experience with Adobe products is a plus)
- Assisting the Canaries' presence on social media, including game updates and club marketing
- Writing club press releases
- Helping maintain the press box at Sioux Falls Stadium
- Other administrative duties as assigned

What we expect from you:

- Represent the Canaries organization professionally as an extension of the front office
- Be committed to learn about the industry
- HAVE FUN and enjoy your summer at the ballpark

Application materials:

- At least two writing samples. Game recaps and/or feature stories preferred. We're looking for a candidate with strong writing ability for this position.
- A baseball play-by-play demo with at least an inning of continuous unedited play-by-play
- Any examples of social media/graphic design experience
- Any examples of interviewing for broadcast
- Any examples of video production experience
- Any other materials that demonstrate your abilities for the duties described.

I deleted this post, because if the responses are similar to Twitter, it'll be "that's just how the business is" "it's about sacrifice" "it's how you pay your dues" etc.

We've all done it. I did it. Doesn't mean we can't try and change it.

Congratulations to STAA member Adam Bertsch, the newest member of the Canaries broadcast team!

Adam is a native of South Dakota and a recent graduate of Black Hills State University.
