Play-by-Play/Multi-Media, West Virginia Miners

#1 Post by Jon Chelesnik » Mon Oct 15, 2018 12:45 pm

The West Virginia Miners Baseball Club is accepting applications for a Play-by-Play/Multi-Media Specialist.

The Miners are the 2012, 2013 and 2016 Prospect League champions.

The application deadline Thursday November 8th.

Our organization is seeking a baseball radio play-by-play announcer for the away game portion of our 2019 Prospect League season (the Prospect League season traditionally runs from late-May to early August. There would be 30 road games to broadcast plus more if postseason becomes necessary). We do require audio demo to be submitted (baseball only, please). Strong preference will be given to candidates that can additionally perform the following duties during the home portion of the Miners' 2019 schedule: The following responsibilities will be expected of the candidate (for the home game portion of our schedule): the ability to create video/audio content for our organization which may include (1) creating periodic 60-second audio commercials entitled "A Miner Minute" that involves writing scripts for audio recaps of games and/or upcoming promotions of future games that will in turn be fed daily to the region's radio stations for their use. (2) Creating periodic video content for use on the West Virginia Miners' website, social media, and stadium JumboTron videoboard that at times may feature such things as prior game highlights, human-interest stories on players, player interviews, player community outreach appearances, etc. (3) Reporting on all home games as action occurs via social media (Twitter primarily with some Facebook, Instagram, etc). (4) Ability to use small hand-held camera to create short films of "Getting To Know" player interviews, etc (for use on website, Facebook & Twitter, etc). Having all the previously mentioned skills to create human-interest and feature stories concerning anything involving West Virginia Miners Baseball. A big plus would also be the ability to contribute periodic written articles for the team website. Also possibly maintaining roster maintenance for daily usage and doing press releases when requested. Ability to take photographs mandatory. ALSO PLEASE NOTE...that while this is a very inclusive description that there are plans (where the home game responsibilities are concerned) to have one additional person on staff assisting with (dividing) this workload with the accepted candidate. This two-person department will report to the Director of Marketing, Sales & Game Day Operations for West Virginia Miners Baseball (Jim Holland).

The West Virginia Miners are a baseball team based in Beckley, WV and a member of the summer collegiate wooden bat (and NCAA approved) Prospect League, a 10-team league that stretches from West Virginia to Missouri. The team plays a 60-game regular season schedule that traditionally runs from Memorial Day to August 4. If the team qualifies for postseason play, the longest the season should extend would be the August 14 area. The team plays at ultra-modern (built in 2010) Linda K. Epling Stadium, which features a completely artificially turfed playing surface (which means there is no inclement weather field maintenance work associated with this position posting).

CALENDAR TERMS OF POSITION (starting / ending dates):

We would prefer to have the candidate in-house here with us no later than a week prior to the beginning of the regular season and be here through the conclusion of the entire season (including any possible postseason play).

This position should be considered as a seasonal position only for the summer of 2019. If applicable (if the candidate should happen to still be a college student), the West Virginia Miners always will work in cooperation with all colleges and universities where paperwork is involved concerning internship credit for college students. Free housing for the employment period (usually at our local Country Inn and Suites hotel location...5 miles from ballpark) is included as part of the benefits with this offer and the hotel does have a daily breakfast that is included. A small complimentary food package at our stadium for staff members is also available on home game dates. The person we hire will ride the bus with team on road and will be housed at no charge to the radio announcer. Financial compensation is as follows: $75.00 per each away game broadcast and if the away game announcer we hire also does the home game duties previously described, that person would additionally receive $50.00 per each home game in which these duties are performed. Although a seasonal position, this listing offers the chance (due to the amount of content being produced during the course of the summer) to be a terrific resume' builder for the accepted candidate. Team will supply collared staff shirts (which can be kept by the accepted candidate at the season's conclusion). Also, when the Miners last won the Prospect League title in 2016, all staff members did receive championship rings.

We would like to fill this position no later than December 15, 2018.

Please indicate in your cover letter you learned of this opportunity through Sportscasters Talent Agency of America. Send demo and resume to:
