CAN'T ANYONE GET THE PHIL FULMER STORY RIGHT?

#1 Post by Marky » Tue Nov 04, 2008 7:53 am

Yesterday, Phil Fulmer was the subject of a press conference at The University of Tennessee where he said-

"I accepted the University's decision that this will be my last season as Tennessee's head football coach."

Now, does that sound like a RESIGNATION to you? The University made the decision, not Fulmer.

So why are so many talk show hosts and sportswriters saying Fulmer resigned?

Here we go-

NOW- AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE?

"THE UNIVERSITY'S DECISION!"

So how is Fulmer "stepping down?"

If he resigned, he probably wouldn't have a $6 million buyout coming his way. When he was fired, he did.

It's been even worse on sports talk radio. It was to the point when a local host brought up the idea Fulmer was fired I literally was shocked.

I am a big critic of the media in east Tennessee- who I think are by and large apologists no matter who or what they cover and are often intimidated to report that way.

And if reporting a dismissal as a resignation isn't a sign of such apologist behavior- I don't know what is.

Would this sort of reporting be accepted ANYWHERE else?
