Jonathan Peterlin(November 1, 2012) Jonathan Peterlin kept a sharp eye on movement within the sportscasting industry and made sure a potential employer knew his name before an opening was announced. The initiative paid off in a new job. An STAA client, Peterlin has accepted the position of Operations Manager & Sports Talk Host/Play-by-Play/News at KGSO in Wichita, KS.

Peterlin is replacing fellow STAA client, Jay Sanderson, who left last month for a play-by-play job at New Mexico State University.

“It’s a good opportunity because this will get me a lot of desired reps hosting daily,” says Peterlin. “The opportunity to hone my skills on a daily basis will be instrumental toward my future success in this business. It doesn’t hurt that this also puts me closer to my family (near Chicago).”

The job was posted as a stealth position on the STAA website, but the name of employer and the position description were emailed to STAA Premier members. However, before that email was distributed, Peterlin had already taken action. After seeing a note of Sanderson’s departure on the STAA Hot Sheet — a list of sportscasters who are leaving jobs across the country — Peterlin made first contact with KGSO.

“Sending the link to my STAA Talent Page made the whole process extremely simplistic. They were able to call me and tell me they loved my sports stuff, and from there all they needed was recent news work I’ve done since there’s a news component to the job. I had one file to send in addition to my STAA Talent Page Link. You can’t ask for anything easier.”

Peterlin leaves New Media Broadcasters in Havre, MT, where he has been a news anchor since July. He has co-hosted sports talk shows on KSLG in St. Louis and WJOL in Joliet, IL. Peterlin is a graduate of Lindenwood University.

The future is looking bright and Peterlin is grateful.

“I know this opportunity would not have been possible if not for STAA, and so I wanted to say thank you for all that you’ve done to help me. I couldn’t be more excited to start this new adventure!”
