(December 31, 2013) Your follow through is as important to your job search as it is to your baseball swing. Mark Perlman-Price, an STAA client, used solid follow through to land a new position. Perlman-Price is the new Broadcast Intern for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
The IronPigs are the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
“This gets my foot in the door in affiliated baseball – and at a much higher level than I thought I would be able to attain. Working a full AAA season for the first time will be a tremendous learning experience and the amount of new contacts I make in the process will be invaluable,” Perlman-Price says.
Perlman-Price has been building his baseball experience for the last three summers as the broadcaster for the New Bedford Bay Sox of the NECBL. He also broadcasts high school football and basketball play-by-play in the Massachusetts area.
The opportunity with the IronPigs arrived in Perlman-Price’s inbox via the PBEO website.
“I applied for the job via email and followed up a week or so after by phone. After a bit of phone tag, I talked to the IronPigs’ broadcaster Matt Provence and set up a Skype interview, which we had a couple days later.”
Perlman-Price attributes much of his success to overhauling his job market strategy with STAA’s guidance.
“I am so excited and amazed I could land a position at the AAA level and I give an immense amount of credit to [STAA] for helping me revamp my website and take a new approach on how to apply to jobs. Matt Provence specified in the interview that it was my follow-up call that really put me on his radar as someone worth interviewing,” Perlman-Price says.
“I joined STAA for the advanced job leads and to try and land more interviews. This year I had three interviews already (and still had several applications out) and already was offered a position. I owe so much of this success to STAA.”
With 2014 on the horizon, Perlman-Price is eager to get started in Pennsylvania.
“I’m especially looking forward to working with the IronPigs because they’ve been recognized as one of the premier organizations in minor league baseball and have a large and loyal fan base that will add a lot of excitement to coming to work at the ballpark.”
