(August 22, 2012) When one door closes, another often opens. That’s exactly what happened for Stu Paul. An STAA client, Paul has been named play-by-play voice for Delaware State University football, and men’s and women’s basketball. The opportunity wouldn’t have come his way had his previous employer, the Nashville Sounds, not decided last fall to hire a broadcaster with more sales experience.
“I’ve always wanted to do football, at least at the college level, after so many years of broadcasting it at the high school level,” Paul says. “It’s nice to delve into a variety of different sports other than professional baseball.”
A 20-year veteran of minor league baseball, Paul also has experience with college football and basketball and minor league hockey.
After several seasons on Clear Channel radio in Dover, DE, DSU’s games will air this season on SFMSports.Net. A sports production and broadcast network specializing in new media technologies, SFMSports.Net will produce and broadcast all DSU football and men’s basketball games, along with selected women’s basketball contests. All broadcasts will be available on the network’s online and mobile streaming channels. Paul joined SFMSports.Net earlier this year.
“It’s nice to see my life get back on track, especially after what I had to deal with the past year and a half,” says Paul, referring not only to the uncertainty of his professional future, but also to injuries he suffered in a fall last year that required surgery.
A client since STAA’s inception, Paul is especially grateful for this opportunity. “Being out of work for a while and not doing much makes me appreciate how much I enjoy doing my job and being in the profession that I am in.”
The DSU broadcasts will feature a 30-minute pre-game show prior to each football broadcast, 30-minute all-access pre-game show before each basketball broadcast, and weekly interactive coaches shows through the fall and winter sports seasons.
DSU opens the football season September 1st at home against VMI before nationally televised road games at Delaware University (NBC Sports Network) and Cincinnati (ESPN3).
“’I’m excited about this and hope it leads to bigger and better things,” Paul says with a smile.
