(July 31, 2013) Jordan Slocum spent his first year out of college broadcasting in a variety of roles. Now, he is getting the chance to broadcast only sports. An STAA client, Slocum has been hired as Sports Director at KUTT in Fairbury, NE.
“The position gives me the opportunity to be ‘the guy’ in a sports department and gives me a tremendous opportunity to grow,” says Slocum.
A 2012 graduate of Central Michigan University, Slocum spent the past year with New Media Broadcasters in Havre, MT. In Havre, Slocum broadcast high school sports play-by-play, but he also hosted a daily country music shift and did news, weather and production.
“The job in Havre was more of a ‘jack-of-all-trades’ position which sprinkled sports in with a number of other things like news and jock work,” says Slocum. “This position in Fairbury is almost exclusively sports. Considering sports is my passion and also where I feel I have the most strength professionally, it seemed like a no-brainer.”
Slocum is the fourth straight STAA client hired by KUTT and Program Director Randy Bauer. When the position opening most recently, Bauer asked STAA CEO Jon Chelesnik for recommendations.
“[Jon] mentioned that this opening existed after I joined STAA a few weeks ago and he sent them my Talent Page,” says Slocum. “They liked what they heard and it went from there.
“I can’t thank [STAA] enough for letting me know about this position. Obviously, without you I would have never even have known this existed.”
