(January 27, 2014) STAA client Richie Melby is trading the mountains of Montana for the desert climate of Arizona. Melby has been hired as the Weekend Sports Anchor at KVOA in Tucson, AZ.
“Moving to Tucson and working at KVOA is a great opportunity for me to learn from some of the best, award-winning journalists in the business,” Melby says.
“It also gives me a chance to cover one of the finest athletic universities in the country, the University of Arizona, as well as the numerous high school programs in the area.”
Melby is a graduate of Montana State Billings. He began his broadcasting career at KTVQ in Billings, MT, moving on his most recent position as Sports Director at KRTV in Great Falls.
STAA first sent the job lead to clients on December 19th, then posted it publicly 11 days later on the STAA. Melby, though, first heard about it at work because the new position is within the same company for which he was working in Great Falls.
In evaulating the Tucson position, Melby consulted with STAA CEO Jon Chelesnik for advice in handling contracts, relocation, and resumes. Now that all of the details are settled, he is looking forward to a few of the extra perks of working in a bigger, warmer market.
“Aside from the great opportunities in the sports field, my fiancé and I are very excited to explore the Old Pueblo, its history and enjoy all of the outdoors in much warmer weather than Montana.”
