(June 23, 2014) STAA client Michael Keeley has a great deal of ice to look forward to this fall. Keeley is the new Director of Broadcasting and Account Executive for the NAHL’s Keystone Ice Miners.
“While the Ice Miners are a ‘new’ team to the NAHL in terms of location — allowing me to create my own identity as a broadcaster for them — the franchise comes with an established history of success from its time in Port Huron.”
Keeley was chatting with a friend who mentioned the Port Huron Fighting Falcons were relocating from Michigan to Pennsylvania. Keeley followed up on that piece of info by asking a former colleague who works in the same league to get him the contact for the position.
“After a few emails and calls with team president Thomas Kinsey, I traveled down to Connellsville to have a face to face and was offered the job the following day.”
A graduate of SUNY Oswego, Keeley served as play-by-play voice of the men’s ice hockey team, broadcasting over 100 DIII games between 2009 and 2013. Starting out his professional career in the NAHL is a great step toward achieving Keeley’s long-term sportscasting goals.
“Hockey play-by-play is my ultimate career goal, and I consider it my strongest sport, so this is exactly the type of position I was looking for. Additionally, the sales aspect will allow me to sharpen my skills in an area that is very important to the business, but not always included in the job description.”
