The Odessa Jackalopes have a history of hiring talented broadcasters. Alumni include Midland Rockhounds legend Bob Hards and current AHL trio of broadcasters Brien Rea (Texas Stars), Tony Brown (Cleveland Monsters) and Nick Nollenberger (San Jose Barracudas).
Jason Ruff is next in line. He’s joining the Jackalopes as Broadcasting and Media Relations Director.
Ruff is the third STAA member hired by the team in the past several seasons. The Jackalopes asked STAA to share the current opening with members on June 19th. Ruff was hired in less than one week.
“I am very excited to be a part of the Jackalopes family and to represent the great hockey fans of Odessa and the Permian Basin,” said Ruff.
A graduate of Michigan State University, Ruff is a broadcast and sports journalism professional who has been part of the hockey and sports talk radio landscape since 2013.
The Chicago-area native is an award-winning play-by-play broadcaster and sports talk show host, covering Michigan State hockey for five seasons as a writer, producer and show host for Impact 88.9 FM in East Lansing. He also worked as a play-by-play broadcaster and commentator for the Big Ten Network Student U. Before coming to Odessa, Ruff was a broadcast intern for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League.
