(November 26, 2012) Like many baseball Winter Meeting attendees, STAA client Bryan Holland hoped to leave with some useful networking contacts – maybe even a job. Holland came away with a job in sales, hoping it would eventually lead him back behind the mic. The gamble paid off. Holland has been promoted to Director of Media Relations/Play-by-play Broadcaster for the Potomac Nationals.
The Potomac Nationals are the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
“After securing a position as a Sales Executive for the Potomac Nationals at the 2011 Winter Meetings, I sold group outings, picnic parties, and corporate sponsorships throughout the 2012 season with the hopeful expectation of transitioning back into the Media Relations/Play-by-play broadcasting role for the 2013 season,” Holland explains.
“With P-Nats baseball, I will refine my play-calling abilities in addition to improving strategies for maintaining positive relationships with the media, while continuing our growth in corporate sales initiatives. I believe repetition allows you to become more instinctive about the tasks at hand and certainly the game as a whole, and I can’t wait for the 140-game slate to begin in April.”
Now, Holland is ready to return to the familiar Carolina League airwaves. Holland’s first opportunity to broadcast baseball came during college, back in 2007, during a summer broadcasting internship for the Frederick Keys, who also play in the Carolina League.
Prior to joining the Nationals, Holland was the play-by-play announcer for the Hagerstown Suns and the Outer Banks Daredevils.
“So much of my career in baseball has felt almost surreal in a way, because with all the awesome opportunities that arise in MiLB, sometimes I have to pinch myself and be thankful that I am doing something I absolutely love.”
Getting back on the air advances Holland further down the path towards his career goals.
“For me, this is the next step of my mission to reach the Big Leagues as a play-by-play broadcaster.”
