The destination franchise for Minor League Baseball broadcasters is adding a second STAA member to its roster. The Worcester Red Sox are welcoming Tyler Murray as a radio/TV play-by-play voice.
“I couldn’t be more honored and excited to join such a storied organization like the WooSox and their outstanding broadcast team,” Murray enthuses.
Murray joins fellow STAA member Jim Cain on a radio/TV team that also includes Mike Antonellis, Jay Burnham and 2021 STAA All-American Cooper Boardman.
Worcester is a coveted home for Minor League Baseball broadcasters because of the organization’s history of sending voices to the Majors. No fewer than 11 of their former broadcasters have gone onto the Big Leagues.
Murray will not be a stranger to WooSox fans. He filled in on several games last season. “The chance to work with terrific broadcasters and good friends like Jim Cain, Mike Antonellis, Jay Burnham, and Cooper Boardman – and following in the legacy of Josh Maurer – is an absolute dream come true.”
Murray replaces Maurer, who joined the Milwaukee Brewers this off-season.
Murray has been an STAA member since 2013. He’s spent 11 years in Minor League baseball, the past six with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He is also the main voice of Hockey East on NESN and of UMass football and basketball on radio.
“When I had the chance to fill in for a few WooSox games last season, I could tell Polar Park was a special place, and I can’t wait to call it home,” Murray smiles.
