Josh Elliot, anchor of ESPN’s “SportsCenter” morning edi tion, showed why he’s headed for the more touchy-feely world of “Good Morning America.”
He cried at the end of his final show last Friday.
It was an unusual sight for the traditionally macho world of sports TV as Elliot became visibly emotional, apparently holding back tears as he said his farewells to the staff and viewers.
As he looked down at his desk, the sportscaster called the “SportsCenter” spot “the very best job in all of sports — and I’m going to miss it.”
Elliot is set to start as the newsreader next month on ABC’s “GMA.” Both channels are owned by Disney.
ABC likes to shop at ESPN for new personalities for its morning show. Elliot is following the same career path as “GMA” anchor Robin Roberts. She began at ESPN, transferred to “GMA” as the newsreader and eventually was named co-host when Diane Sawyer left in 2009.
