Palaszczuk leaving roots for network radio gig

“Will(June 6, 2014) Leaving home can be hard, but sometimes the tradeoff is worth it. Will Palaszczuk has spent eight of the past nine years in Columbia, MO. He’s leaving, though, for a career opportunity that was too good to pass up. An STAA client, Palaszczuk is moving to Houston to join Yahoo! Sports Radio Network.

Palaszczuk will serve as a sports update anchor and utility show host.

“The sports flash opportunity gives me a chance to be heard in a lot of different markets and increase my profile,” says Palaszczuk. “It will also inherently help me with my writing skills and my cadence to make sure I stay clear and concise with all I do. I’m also looking forward to hosting a weekend show on the network, especially because weekends are when most of the high-profile sporting events happen.”

Palaszczuk’s move to Houston started with an email from YSR! Program Director Craig Larson to STAA CEO Jon Chelesnik. Larson has hired many STAA clients in the past and wanted to see who might be available for this newest opportunity.

“I had no idea what kind of chance I had at the beginning,” says Palaszczuk. “I looked at it as buying a lottery ticket. Jon introduced me via email to Craig Larson, and after a couple of subsequent interviews they made me an offer.

Coincidentally, the YSR offer came the day after Palaszczuk’s four-year anniversary of working at Zimmer Radio in Columbia. At KTGR-AM, Palaszczuk hosted an Afternoon Drive sports talk show, handled sports updates and is a former voice of Missouri Tiger women’s basketball. Prior to that, his resume included a four-year stint KOMU-TV in Columbia from 2005 to 2009. Palaszczuk is a graduate of the University of Missouri.

“Having been in Columbia for eight of the last nine years, it had become more of a home to me than anywhere else,” says Palaszczuk. “I’ll miss my coworkers and superiors, who are some of the smartest people I’ve come across in radio.”
