(April 24, 2014) Twice in the past seven months, Andrew Morgan has wrestled with the choice between radio and TV for his sportscasting career. Last fall, he chose radio. This time it’s TV. An STAA client, Morgan is joining KOB 4 in Albuquerque, NM as a sports photographer/MMJ.
Morgan moves to the Land of Enchantment from Wray, CO where he has served as Sports Director at KRDZ 1440 since September.
While Morgan’s time in Wray was short, it was very successful. He won a Colorado Broadcasters Association Award of Excellence for Best Sports Coverage by an Individual. However, the attraction of TV ending up being too strong to ignore.
“It felt right,” says Morgan. “Albuquerque is a place I can continue to develop my career as a sports journalist. I couldn’t pass it up because of the resources I will be exposed to there.”
When he accepted the Colorado radio position last fall, Morgan admits he was concerned that he might be closing the door on his TV aspirations. “The thought most definitely crossed my mind [that it might compromise his future TV goals], but the opportunity to get play-by-play experience in my home state of Colorado felt like the right decision. We all write our own story when it comes to the twists and turns that our career path takes us on. My path led me to Wray and I couldn’t be happier with that decision.”
Morgan says his experience in Colorado will help considerably at KOB. “What I learned in Wray is that hard work pays off. And those who rise quickly are the ones who go the extra mile and take pride in their work. I also learned that building relationships is a major part of the job.”
A 2011 graduate of Colorado State University, Morgan is excited about the things he’ll learn in Albuquerque. “My goal has always been to learn something new everyday in this industry. It’s the little things in the business that separate the good ones from the great.”
