(September 16, 2011) Andy McNamara is excited to get a close up look at the future of hockey. An STAA client, McNamara has been named TV play-by-play voice of the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League.
“I’m looking forward to calling hockey at a high level and getting to broadcast the action of future NHL stars,” McNamara says.
The opportunity represents somewhat of a promotion for McNamara. “I filled-in doing some color commentary last season for the Generals,” McNamara says. When veteran Generals play-by-play broadcaster Roger Lajoie resigned, McNamara applied.
“Being able to use my STAA Talent Page link to send over for the [job] interview was a nice, simple way to get all my info over to them in one shot,” McNamara says. “They commented on how they liked it and how easy it was to see all my material in one spot.”
Since joining STAA in June 2009, McNamara has earned a reputation for working as hard in the job market as any client on STAA’s roster. “The way I see it is that it’s so competitive that one has to make their own breaks,” McNamara says.
A five year veteran of sports play-by-play, McNamara’s hockey broadcasting includes the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA), and Ontario University Athletics (OUA). McNamara has also called play-by-play for the 2011 CCAA Men’s Collegiate National Basketball Championships and the 2011 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Prague, Czech Republic.
The Generals job isn’t the only good news McNamara has received this week. He has also been chosen to host the National Lacrosse League’s entry draft live online broadcast the week of September 19th in Toronto.
