Kappes joins SWB broadcast crew

RailRidersThe Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders proudly announce the hiring of Andrew Kappes as the team’s new media relations and broadcasting assistant. An STAA client, Kappes comes to NEPA after spending two seasons in a similar role with the Lexington (KY) Legends of the Class-A South Atlantic League. His tenure with the club will begin on Jan. 14.

“I am very excited to join the RailRiders organization,” said Kappes, who will assist the newly hired director of media relations and broadcasting, John Sadak. “I thank [RailRiders president and general manager] Mr. [Rob] Crain and Mr. Sadak for the opportunity to call games for the top minor-league affiliate of the most prestigious organization in all of baseball, the New York Yankees.”

Kappes’ career in professional baseball began at the age of 14 with an independent league club in northern Kentucky, writing game recaps and helping anchor the team’s pregame radio show. The 22-year-old received his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Northern Kentucky University, where he called games for the school’s basketball, baseball and soccer teams. He also spent time in the broadcast booth for the University of Cincinnati baseball program.

“A number of very qualified candidates applied for this position at the Winter Meetings,” said Sadak. “Andrew’s experience, skill set and personality readily stood out. His past employers offered high praise for his talents and work ethic. We are very excited for what he will bring to our fans in his multifaceted role during the 2013 season.”
