(May 5, 2015) After being out of full-time radio for a year, Brice Kesler is back in the game. An STAA member, Kesler has been hired as Sports Director at ESPN 1410 and its two sister stations in North Platte, NE.
Kesler has been out of full-time radio since March of 2014 when he stepped down after nearly three years as Sports Director and Business Development Executive for Rocking M Radio in Goodland, KS. Since then, he has continued doing play-by-play for the five-station cluster while working full-time with local youth sports programs and coaching high school sports.
“It was really a perfect set of circumstances that allowed me to not only get back into coaching, but also continue to broadcast junior college basketball and work full-time in the city’s recreation department,” says Kesler. “It wasn’t that I was wanting to get away from radio, but it was an opportunity that, after thinking over for quite some time, felt like the right timing to give it a shot.
“I knew I would someday go back to radio full-time, it was only a matter of when,” says Kesler. “The opportunity in North Platte is a tremendous one and I’m thankful for it. It’s refreshing and exciting to be back on the air full-time once more.”
In North Platte, Kesler replaces fellow STAA member Robert Lovell, who left the station for another opportunity. Kesler’s responsibilities will include daily sports updates, and football, basketball, volleyball and softball play-by-play for a local high school and community college.
“It’s a full-time sports gig where I can invest nearly 100% of my efforts to what I love most. The opportunity to be that on-air ambassador for both North Platte High School and North Platte Community College and provide an entertaining and local sports talk show to the area puts me right back at home so to speak.”
