“JJ(April 29, 2014) The Sioux Falls Canaries have hired a new radio announcer for the upcoming season. STAA client J.J. Hartigan will be the new “Voice of the Canaries” and will also handle media relations for the club.

Hartigan joins the Canaries after spending the last six years as the play-by-play voice of the Mankato Moondogs of the Northwoods League. While with the Moondogs, Hartigan called the most games in franchise history and was named Northwoods League Baseball Broadcaster of the Year in 2011 and 2013.

In addition to his work with the Moondogs, Hartigan has spent the last four years as the radio broadcaster for SDSU Jackrabbit women’s basketball, including three trips to the NCAA Tournament. Fans may also recognize his voice from various boys and girls high school basketball tournaments on South Dakota Public Broadcasting.

“We are excited to have J.J. as the voice of the Canaries,” said Canaries Executive Vice President Jim Olander. “His resume speaks for itself and he has a great passion for the game of baseball. I think our fans will feel right at home and entertained by his play-by-play descriptions.”

Hartigan replaces fellow STAA client Scott Beatty who resigned from his position in March to spend more time with his family in Illinois.
