Bill HarringtonAfter years of trying, Bill Harrington is making the move from independent to affiliated minor league baseball. An STAA member since 2010, Harrington is joining the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes as play-by-play broadcaster and media relations director.

Harrington will broadcast all 76 games for the San Francisco Giants short-season affiliate. He will also serve as the primary contact between the media and the front office.

“It’s extremely exciting to be a part of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes,” Harrington said. “The fact that the Volcanoes are an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants makes this an extra special opportunity for me. I grew up in San Francisco and I have been a Giants fan since I was a little kid, so not only do I get to work with a top-notch ownership group, I also get to work with the players from my favorite team.”

Harrington was the inaugural Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations for the Laredo Lemurs, who got their start in 2012 as a new franchise in the independent American Association. During his time with the Lemurs, Harrington called 400 regular season games and 16 playoff games. He was on the call last September when the Lemurs clinched their first American Association Championship in team history.

Harrington got his start in radio at AM 950 KAHI in Auburn, California. While at KAHI, Harrington was the voice of high school football and basketball and he also hosted Sports Talk 950 after live sporting events on the station, including Oakland A’s baseball, Sacramento Kings basketball, and San Jose Sharks hockey. Harrington’s next move took him to News Talk 1530 KFBK in Sacramento, California. He spent seven years with KFBK working as the station’s Technical Director and On-Air Personality before making his move into broadcasting baseball games.
