Next stop for globetrotting Griffin Epstein: Australia

Though Griffin Epstein graduated from Indiana University just last year, he is already using his microphone to see the world. He spent three weeks covering the 2022 Maccabi Games in Israel. He’s also broadcast in Canada. Now, Epstein is heading Down Under to call play-by-play for the Brisbane Bandits of the Australian Baseball League.

“I had heard about the ABL multiple times the last couple years from a few different broadcasters both on webinars and in networking,” Epstein recounts. “The more I researched about the league and talked to more ABL broadcasting alums the more I was intrigued by the position. Brisbane is a team that traditionally hires American broadcasters- former St. Louis Cardinals/Blues broadcaster Ken Wilson was the voice of the Bandits last year. I just cold contacted the Brisbane front office to inquire about the position.”

Epstein’s baseball broadcasting resume includes stops in the Northwoods, California Winter and Frontier leagues. Now he’ll have the opportunity to live and work in Australia. “I have always really enjoyed traveling and exploring different cultures across both the U.S. and the world. Broadcasting in Australia combines my love for travel, broadcasting and working in sports.

“The Bandits organization is providing me with a host family for my five months Down Under– I’m really excited to be fully immersed in this new culture. I have broadcasted internationally already in Canada and Israel and found those experiences especially memorable by seeing the different atmospheres and traditions that countries bring to sporting events.”

Epstein’s versatility in communications and marketing was helpful in landing the Bandits position.

“My time as the Marketing Manager for the California Winter League and Palm Springs Power allowed me to gain more experience in a variety of skills while working in a team’s front office. I know my vast skill set was especially attractive to Brisbane as I will be able to positively contribute to nearly every aspect of the organization.”
