(June 15, 2012 Many sportscasting jobs at radio stations include some form of news or other non-sports responsibilities. It can be a privilege to work for a station that allows you to focus entirely on sports. That privilege has been granted to STAA client Chad Franzen, who has been hired as Sports Director at KUTT AM/FM in Fairbury, NE.
KUTT is the flagship station for Doane College football, an NAIA school. Franzen will also handle play-by-play for high school football and boys and girls basketball. Other duties will include covering state volleyball and girls state softball.
“The chance to break into calling football on the college level, which I have not done before, along with continuing to call high school games in Nebraska, where the communities are so passionate about their local sports, are things that I am particularly looking forward to,” Franzen says.
Franzen is the third straight STAA client in this position, following Blake Cripps and John Thayer. He found the opening through an email sent by STAA to Premier clients.
“The opportunity came about as a result of my Premier Membership with STAA. I received notification of the position, and happened to be in a position to apply for it shortly thereafter.”
“I had previous experience broadcasting sports in Western Nebraska, so I think that may have made me an attractive candidate. There is absolutely no way I could have gotten this opportunity without STAA, however.”
Franzen previously spent two years with Chadrad Communications in Chadron, NE. From there, he moved on to serve as News & Sports Director at Three Eagles Communications in Colorado.
“I am leaving a great job, in Salida, CO, where I was News and Sports Director. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, but the chance to focus solely on sports, and provide play-by-play for multiple high schools along with Doane College football, made the opportunity too good to pass up.”
