(June 4, 2012) The past four months have been especially good for STAA client Zack Fish. In March, he accepted a summer baseball play-by-play job. In May, he graduated from college. Now, Fisch has been hired as full-time Broadcasting/Media Relations Coordinator for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League.
“Coming out of college I was looking forward to getting into the broadcasting industry. I had a little bit of luck that the first full-time job I applied for I attained,” Fisch smiles. “It’s an honor for me to join the Saints and it’s a perfect fit for me. I’m really excited to start.”
When the position opened, Fighting Saints GM Dan Lehv approached STAA upon the recommendation of another USHL organization. “It was a job I definitely would not have found out about because it wasn’t listed anywhere but STAA,” says Fisch.
Adds Lehv, “I’m grateful for the role STAA played in providing us many talented and impressive candidates.”
A 2012 graduate of St. Cloud State University, Fisch was rated the 9th best collegiate sportscaster in the country in STAA’s 2012 All-America rankings. He joined STAA as a junior.
“In this entire process with Dubuque, STAA and [CEO] Jon Chelesnik have been with me every step of the way. I have been in touch with him about my resume and demo, and the All-America program, I feel, has put me on the map in the broadcasting industry. I have made great strides in everything I bring to the table since I joined STAA a year ago and now I have a job because of it.”
To accept the Fighting Saints job, Fisch had to resign the seasonal position he took in March with the St. Cloud Rox summer collegiate baseball team. Even though he is leaving the Rox, he is grateful for the opportunity they presented.
“Their front office was very understanding of my situation and that hockey is my first passion. It is very tough to leave an organization that welcomed me with open arms. I wish them the best of luck.”
The Dubuque Fighting Saints are in just their third year of existence. They won the USHL title in their inaugural season in 2010.
“The way they run things in the front office and the success they’ve had on the ice, they are an organization with a forward thinking plan of action,” says Fisch.
“From top to bottom the organization seems like a class act, like an environment I will fit well into. The USHL is a platform for young broadcasters to jump to the pro level. It’s a perfect league for me to start my career.”
