Felice joins TinCaps broadcast team

Tom Felice(March 2, 2012) After almost nine months of searching, Tom Felice has finally landed his first post-college job in affiliated baseball. An STAA client, Felice has been hired as a broadcasting and media relations assistant by the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

The Tin Caps are the Class-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

“I’m looking forward to broadcasting baseball in an environment like Fort Wayne. They’ve won numerous awards organizationally and Parkview Field has won several awards,” Felice says.

Felice is also excited by the fact the Padres farm system was recently ranked number one in all of minor league baseball by ESPN. Plus, Felice knows he’ll learn a lot working alongside TinCaps Director of Broadcasting Mike Couzens and Mike Maahs, who is also part of the broadcast team.

Felice learned of the opening with the TinCaps in an email from STAA.

“Both Mikes recognized the STAA name when I talked to them.”

Felice’s last baseball-only gig was with the Bristol Collegiate Baseball Club during the 2010 season. A graduate of Fordham University, Felice received a well-rounded radio education at campus station WFUV that included play-by-play, reporting, anchoring, and show hosting.

With the kind of gung-ho attitude typically found in someone just beginning their sports broadcasting career, Felice advises his fellow young broadcasters to not be afraid to get their hands dirty in exchange for time in the booth.

“You have to keep sending your stuff out and be willing to do anything. I want to be a broadcaster so I want innings, but you have to be willing to do the media relations and things like tarp pulling as a means to an end.”
