Three years ago, Riley Corcoran was introduced to Learfield’s Tom Boman at STAA’s One Day Ticket to Sportscasting Success seminar. That meeting led to Boman hiring Corcoran to be the voice of Montana State University women’s basketball. Now, Corcoran is taking over as the football and men’s basketball voice at another Learfield school, the University of Montana.
“Riley is incredibly talented, and we feel certain Griz Nation will embrace his great work and look forward to hearing him week in and week out over the airwaves,” says Boman, who is vice president, broadcast operations for Learfield, UM Athletics’ multimedia rights holder
Boman continues, “Of course we did not take this lightly and conducted an exhaustive national search to determine the best candidate. We were fortunate not only to find the best talent but someone who has significant ties to Montana.”
Corcoran grew up in Billings. In addition to calling Montana State women’s basketball and select men’s games over the past three years, he was part of the football broadcast team and integral with the pre and post-game shows and weekly coaches’ shows across all sports.
Prior to returning to his home state in 2013, Corcoran was director of media relations and broadcasting for the Wilson Tobs Baseball Club in North Carolina. He hosted the pre-game show and handled all play-by-play duties for the team’s 61 games. His additional experience includes serving as a sports reporter for the Billings Gazette and as sports director for Sports 630 The Fan in Boise, Idaho. At The Fan, he hosted a four-day, two-hour radio show that was awarded “2012 Best Sports Show in Idaho” by the Idaho State Broadcasters Association. That same year, he was awarded the association’s “2012 Best play-by-play Broadcaster in Idaho”.
“I am truly honored and beyond excited to be the next Voice of the Griz,” said Corcoran. “As a Montana native, driving up to Missoula on the weekends for games became a tradition and I saw the dedication and passion for UM Athletics at a young age. I can’t wait to work with all of the great people in Grizzly athletics and be the voice to the Griz faithful for many Big Sky Championships in the years to come.”
Additionally, Corcoran brings play-by-play experience from his alma mater, Washington State University, where he called all sports – primarily men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and volleyball – and was involved with local, regional and national television news reporting including FOX Sports Net Northwest’s weekly show “Cougars All-Access”.
