Zachary Bryan(July 8, 2015) After broadcasting collegiate club hockey for the past two seasons, Zachary Bryan is taking over as the voice of an NCAA Division I program. An STAA member, Bryan is the new voice at the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

“I love calling hockey. Love it,” says Bryan with a grin. “For me this was not only my opportunity to be paid for a genuine passion in life, but to help grow the sport in the southeast United States.”

Bryan has spent the past two seasons calling games for the club team at Vanderbilt University. The UAH opportunity came about when a friend referred Bryan to the university and told the school about how Bryan had been broadcasting Vanderbilt hockey independently. “After listening to my demo on STAA’s website we talked hockey, what they wanted, and what I wanted to bring to the broadcast,” says Bryan.

Since 2006, Bryan has worked for WAKM AM 950 in Franklin, TN. His responsibilities range from co-hosting shows and other on-air work, to producing and sales. He will continue in that position while calling UAH games. “The commute is about an hour from where I am [in Franklin] to Huntsville, and games are primarily on the weekends.

“Alabama-Huntsville’s hockey team recently went Division I and have alumni in the NHL,” says Bryan. “I enjoy the people associated with the program and their desire to get better with every year. The sky’s the limit.”

Bryan is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. He first joined STAA in 2012.

“STAA has been a huge help in my career. Thank you for going above and beyond with all that you and your team do.”
