“Michael(December 23, 2013) This holiday season, STAA client Michael Broskowski is thankful for the gift of employment. Broskowski has been hired for two broadcasting positions. First, as the Media Relations Intern for the California Winter League and as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Burlington Bees.

“Two months ago I was hoping to at the very least have one opportunity lined up for the future, to have two lined up is very exciting.”

A 2013 graduate of Western Illinois University, Broskowski was ranked on the 2013 STAA All-America list. Broskowski is looking forward to heading to a sunny climate in a few weeks.

“The California Winter League gives me an opportunity to add more media relations experience to my resume as well as broadcasting baseball in the winter months in a beautiful location,” Broskowski says.

“Burlington is a great opportunity because I will be able to run all aspects of a media relations department as well as a broadcasting department for a professional baseball organization.”

Broskowski uncovered the CWL opening via the league’s website. Discovering the Burlington opportunity required reaching out to his network.

“With Burlington, it all came down to networking and connections. I interned with the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League and through front office members that I am still in contact with I found out about the opening with the Bees and was recommended to Burlington by the Kernels front office, which was a big in getting me a chance to interview for the job.”

Broskowski’s practical advice to those in the job market is to look for the unadvertised openings.

“My advice for other job seekers would be to network. There are more jobs open out there than just the ones that are advertised. Ask around to those you know about what openings they may know of.”
