A former STAA All-American has landed a new opportunity in minor league baseball. 2010 All-American and STAA client Andrew Africk is joining the Dayton Dragons as Media Relations and Broadcasting Assistant.
Africk will work with Dragons Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting Tom Nichols on game broadcasts on the Dragons flagship radio station, WONE 980 AM. Games can also be heard via the internet at www.daytondragons.com.
Africk replaces Mike Couzens, who has been hired as the new voice of the Fort Wayne TinCaps.
Africk spent the 2011 season as a broadcaster and media relations assistant with the Winston-Salem Dash, where he worked under the guidance of former Dragons broadcast assistant Alex Vispoli. Africk will fill the same position with the Dragons that Vispoli held in 2009.
Africk, like both Vispoli and Couzens, is a product of the highly-acclaimed Syracuse University S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He spent this past fall and winter as Network Producer for the Big East Conference on football and basketball broadcasts for the IMG Sports Radio Network. He also served as the pre-game and post-game studio host for several universities originating through the IMG broadcast hub in Winston-Salem, including Villanova University, UCLA, Syracuse, and the University of South Florida. He is serving this week as the studio host for the Big East Tournament on the IMG Network.
Previously, Africk spent the 2010 season as a broadcaster with the Lynchburg Hillcats, a Reds affiliate that season in Carolina League. He spent the 2009 season as broadcaster with the Mat-Su Miners in the Alaska Baseball League, a summer circuit for college players. Africk is a native of the Chicago suburb of Lincolnshire, Illinois.
