Public Relations & Broadcasting Coordinator, Cincinnati Cyclones

#1 Post by Jon Chelesnik » Tue Sep 19, 2023 8:59 am

The Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL) have an immediate opening for a Public Relations & Broadcasting Coordinator.

The deadline to apply is this Thursday, September 21 at 2pm EST.

The Public Relations and Broadcasting Coordinator position for the Cyclones is not your normal position. While there is a broadcasting component, it is not something that we prioritize. The person who fills this chair needs to be an ambassador for the organization within the media and community first and foremost. We are in a top-30 market that not only has three major league sports and three major NCAA universities, but in a market that prioritizes prep sports. This placement in the pecking order also helps to underscore that our fanbase is very, very casual. This is not a group that wants to hear about chipping pucks into the corner and our player interviews/game previews were the worst performing pieces of content in our social timelines.

This brings us to the second aspect of the job that we prioritize and that is the creation of social content that appeals to a wide variety of people. You will be working with our Social Media Team to brainstorm, develop, edit and produce this content. The person filling the role of Director of Public Relations and Broadcasting would have a working ability in graphic and video editing. We also prioritize the development of community initiatives and you will work with our newly hired Community Coordinator to identify and activate community based strategies involving players, coaches, and front office employees. It is through this organic outreach that we create lasting, meaningful relationships with the neighborhoods that surround us.

After all that, there is the broadcast and play by play. We currently broadcast online via the ECHL League-Wide platform with FloSports as well as through our website (via Mixlr). While the emphasis is not on broadcasting, that is not to say that there is not a spotlight available for this side of the job as illustrated by its predecessors, Seattle Kraken Radio Play-By-Play Broadcaster Everett Fitzhugh & AHL-bound Andrew Mossbrooks, and the path they are now blazing in the upper levels of hockey.

Please indicate in your cover letter you learned of this opportunity through Sportscasters Talent Agency of America. RUSH your resume, cover letter, graphics and video examples to:
