News/Sports Talk/Play-by-Play, Lamar, CO

A small market radio group in Southeast Colorado is looking for its next star.

The ideal candidate would be well-versed in the gathering, writing and delivery of local news, be able to co-host a local issue-driven program, handle sportscasts for two stations (and potentially a third for the right candidate), and handling play-by-play duties as "the voice" of the local 3A high school.

Other tasks will be assigned for the right candidate.

News coverage has a VERY HEAVY emphasis on local, and would include attending government meetings, local events and finding what is making news in the area. Sports coverage has a VERY HEAVY emphasis on local, and the right candidate would also participate on a local 2-hour sports talk show. This person is based at KLMR-AM, a 5Kw AM station in Lamar, Colorado.

This is a split-shift position with fulfilling the anchoring responsibilities in the morning and the sports talk show in the late afternoon.

Experience preferred, but not necessary. The right candidate will have a solid background in gathering, writing and delivery of a local newscast, as well as play-by-play experience. Your demo MUST include samples of both. You must have a driver's license and reliable transportation. It is necessary you use your vehicle for game travel, but we cover expenses. This is a full-time salaried position. At the present time, we do not offer insurance or retirement.

This is an IMMEDIATE opening, and we will accept demos and resumes until the post is filled.

Please indicate in your cover letter you learned of this opportunity through Sportscasters Talent Agency of America. Send demo and resume to:

Want to stress the importance of News in this position. More than half of the demos submitted so far did not include a news sample, or acknowledgment of news being part of the duties. Over half of the position involves news and news coverage. Please keep that in mind when submitting your materials.

Thanks,

This position is still open.

The station had made a hire, but it didn't work out. If you applied before, boost your chances by resending materials. They are also welcoming new applications.
