SPORTSCASTER SHADRICK WINS SL AWARD
Press Release
(September 5, 2008) The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce that J.P. Shadrick of the Jacksonville Suns has been named the Radio Broadcaster of the Year, as voted upon by his peers and the league's general managers.

The voice of the most popular team in the Southern League in terms of attendance, Shadrick has connected with fans with an undeniable passion for the Suns since joining the club in 2006. In addition to providing excellent play-by-play for each of Jacksonville's 140 games, including the Rickwood Classic on May 28, Shadrick consistently produces descriptive post-game recaps for those unable to tune in for his broadcasts.

"For three years now J.P. has worked hard to represent the Suns well, to build relationships around the league and to make himself a better broadcaster," Suns President and General Manager Peter Bragan, Jr. said. "I feel like he has done a great job and is very deserving of this award."

Sports coverage is a year-round occupation for Shadrick, who is in his eighth season working with CBS Sports in research and production support for Southeastern Conference football. He also has hosted the "The Pete Prisco Show" on WFXJ-AM 930 the Fox in Jacksonville.

Shadrick got his first crack at broadcasting while attending the University of Alabama. He served as a volunteer disc jockey for the campus radio station before announcing a variety of sports for the Crimson Tide. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunication and Film, Shadrick joined the professional broadcasting ranks with the Wilson Tobs of the Coastal Plain League.

Before becoming the voice of the Suns, Shadrick was the announcer for the Sioux Falls Canaries of the independent Northern League in 2005. He held a similar position with the Carolina League's Salem Avalanche the previous year.

The first member of the Suns to win the annual award since Terry Smith in 1979, Shadrick joins a distinguished list of honorees that includes current Southern League radio broadcasters Curt Bloom, Patrick Kinas, Ron Potesta and Larry Ward.
