Four STAA clients have been named Sportscasters of the Year in their respective states by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
Nevada winner Russ Langer is the voice of minor league baseball’s Las Vegas 51s and UNLV football. This is his 8th state honor. New Mexico winner Scott Galetti, the voice of the UNM Lobos is a first time honoree. For the second time, Appalachian State University voice David Jackson is the North Carolina winner. Sports talk host Allen Smothers earns the South Carolina honor for the second straight year.
In addition to the state winners, Dick Vitale has been voted into the NSSA Hall of Fame and Dan Patrick is the National Sportscaster of the Year. All winners will be honored as part of the 54th Annual NSSA Awards Weekend in Salisbury, NC, June 8-10, 2013.
VOTING PROCESS
NSSA members in each state nominate up to three people for state and national awards from mid-October through mid-November. The names of the top two vote-getters (plus ties) appear on the final ballot. If a minimum of two candidates fail to earn a minimum number of nomination votes, that category requires a write-in vote on the final ballot.
Final ballot voting is conducted throughout the month of December. In the event of ties, a tiebreaker vote is conducted. If there is still a tie after the tiebreaker vote, that contest is declared a tie and the candidates are declared co-winners.
