Malkan Broadcasting’s 1440 KEYS has shifted from an all news/talk format to an ESPN Radio affiliate. Starting last night at 8:00pm listeners expecting to tune into conservative talk shows were greeted by the sounds of Sportscenter.

“We are proud to provide ESPN programming and first-class sports radio shows to listeners in the Coastal Bend,” said Rodney Brown, General Manager of Malkan Interactive Communications. “Sports are an integral part of people’s lives and we will bring the best coverage of sports news and events to our local listeners.”

The lineup includes a one-hour local morning show and Corpus Christi IceRays minor league hockey.

Not at all happy with this change in format.  That is all we need more sports!  There are mulitple sports channels on cable television – enough!  Limiting or cancelling out intelligent talk shows in favor of frivilous sports talk shows is just another nail in the coffin in “dumbing” down our young people.
